Rock Hill, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne University's Jody Mizelle (Colerain, N.C.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Player Of The Week, league officials announced today.
Mizelle, a freshman shortstop, batted .400 (eight-for-20) with three home runs and nine runs batted in to lead Lenoir-Rhyne to a 5-1 week.
All six contests were played at the Catawba College Invitational in Salisbury, N.C.
In the opening game against Kutztown (Pa.) Friday, Mizelle hit a home run and drove in all four runs for the Bears in a 4-0 victory.
Mizelle added a home run in each of the two contests Saturday including the game-winning solo round-tripper in a 1-0 win over Shippensburg (Pa.) in the nightcap.
Mizelle leads No. 17 Lenoir-Rhyne (12-4) this year in home runs (six) to go along with a .373 batting average and 15 runs batted in.
Tusculum's Erin Searcy was named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher Of The Week.
Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Queens in a doubleheader at Bears Field on Wednesday beginning at 2:00 p.m. L-R will then travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to play in the Mid-South Classic over the weekend beginning Friday evening against third-ranked North Georgia (6:00 p.m.).
