Lenoir-Rhyne Swimming Falls To Wingate In Road Dual Meet Saturday

Lenoir-Rhyne University freshman Nathan Sears won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.59 Saturday morning in the team's dual meet against Wingate University in Wingate, N.C.

Wingate, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams both fell to Wingate in a dual meet Saturday morning at the Wingate Natatorium.  The Bulldogs won the men's competition by a 112-77 score and prevailed on the women's side, 137-45.  The Wingate women are ranked No. 22 in NCAA Division II.

Despite the setback, the Bears did have four individual winners on the day.

For Lenoir-Rhyne, freshman Nathan Sears (Charlotte, N.C.) won the men's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.59.

Other winners for the Bears on the men's side included freshman Jay Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.20) and sophomore Shane Courtney (Hendersonville, N.C.) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.92).

For the Lenoir-Rhyne women's team, freshman Chelsea Kyle (Knoxville, Tenn.) won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:23.  Kyle's time was also a school-record for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face rival Catawba and Warren Wilson next Saturday in its final home meet of the year at the Shuford Physical Education Center.

L-R will then compete in the 2012 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship from February 15 through February 18 at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center in Charlotte, N.C.
