Bears were led by Ned Kaish with three goals in the losing effort
Lenoir-Rhyne University freshman Ned Kaish scored a team-high three goals despite a 10-8 home loss to Queens University Saturday aftenroon at Moretz Stadium in Hickory, N.C.
Hickory, N.C. - The Queens Men's Lacrosse Team (1-0) was successful in its 2012 season opener with a 10-8 win over Lenoir-Rhyne (0-2) Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.
The Royals' Corey Geroy (Horseheads, N.Y.), Nick Wilkinson (Huntingtown, Md.) and Jason Krogulski (Naperville, Ill.) all scored twice for Queens, who rallied from a 4-0 first-period deficit to take the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Ned Kaish (Atlanta, Ga.) led all scorers with three goals while Miles Britton (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) added two goals and two assists in the losing effort.
Queens held the edge in shots taken (32-30) and ground balls (33-31) while the Royals' Andrew Hyland (Fairfield, Conn.) was credited with the victory in goal after stopping nine shots on the afternoon.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Tyler Kotch (Butler, Pa.), an All-Deep South Conference First-Team honoree last season, also scored twice.
Meanwhile, sophomore Steven McGhee (Durham, N.C.) and senior Patrick Stasio (Williamsville, N.Y.) both tallied three saves for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to take on conference-rival Mars Hill next Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., at Moretz Stadium. Queens hosts Saint Leo on Sunday, February 26, at Noon.
