L-R's Kate Griewisch Wins The One-Mile Run At UNC's Gene Anderson Invitational

Bears open the outdoor season in two weeks when they host the PowerSox Invitational

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne senior Kate Griewisch (Banner Elk, N.C.) won the women's one-mile run Saturday at the Gene Anderson Invitational on the campus of the University of North Carolina in the Bears' final indoor meet of the 2011-12 season.
Griewisch, a 2011 NCAA Division II All-American in outdoor track and field, ran a 5:04 and defeated Campbell's Samantha Robbins by two seconds.
Also on the women's side for L-R, junior Elizabeth Chaffee (Winston-Salem, N.C.) finished ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38 while while sophomore Ashley Kale (Maiden, N.C.) placed 12th in the 3,000-meter run (11:16).
In addition, sophomore Taylor Oliver (Toms River, N.J.) finished 12th in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10:35 seconds.
The Lenoir-Rhyne men's track team also had a strong showing which included freshman Daryel Morris' (Rome, Ga.) fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.04 seconds.
Senior James Pone (Wilson, N.C.) placed sixth in the finals of the 60-meter dash (7.03 seconds) while Morris added a 10th-place finish in the 400-meter dash (52.81 seconds).
Junior Caleb Kingery (Roanoke, Va.) ran a 1:59.55 in the 800-meter run, good for eighth overall, and sophomore Aaron Nelson (Mayodan, N.C.) was seventh in the men's one-mile run (4:32).
The Lenoir-Rhyne men's 1,600-meter relay team was fourth overall with a time of 3:32.61 while junior Artis Gilmore (Asheville, N.C.) was 12th in the men's long jump (18'10.5").
The L-R Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams will open the outdoor season at home when it hosts the PowerSox Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 3.
