Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team (1-7) defeated East Stroudsburg (1-6), 6-3, for its first victory of the year Saturday morning at Hickory High School.

Three players won at both singles and doubles for the Bears on the day - freshman Maggie Brown (Cranford, N.J.), sophomore Amanda Young (Claremont, N.C.) and senior Mariel Mena (Gainesville, Fla).

Mena and Brown defeated Belinda Nguyen (Norristown, Pa.) and Elizabeth Logenhagen (Colonia, N.J.) at second doubles by a score of 8-3.

Mena also shut out Logenhagen at third singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Brown upended Serena Gehman (Boyertown, Pa.) at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Concord at Hickory High School Friday beginning at 2:00 p.m. East Stroudsburg faces Fairmont State in Hilton Head, S.C., on Sunday at Noon.
