Chelsea Kyle Becomes Lenoir-Rhyne's First-Ever All-American In Women's Swimming

Freshman from Knoxville, Tenn., places sixth in the 200-yard butterfly finals

Mansfield, Texas - Lenoir-Rhyne University's Chelsea Kyle made program history by becoming the first-ever All-American Friday evening at the 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Swimming and Diving National Championship at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.
Kyle, a freshman from Knoxville, Tenn., finished sixth in the finals of the women's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.80. The top eight swimmers in each event garner All-American accolades.
Indiana's (Pennsylvania) Jackie Hynson won the event with a record time of 1:58.84.
Kyle advanced to the finals of the 200-yard butterfly after placing sixth in the preliminaries Friday morning as well where she swam a 2:03.65.
All told, Kyle competed in three events at the national championships this year: the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly races and the 200-yard individual medley.
Kyle also holds four Lenoir-Rhyne records which include the 500-yard freestyle (5:23), the 100-yard (56.01) and 200-yard butterfly (2:03.52) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.25) events.
In addition, Kyle became the school's first-ever Bluegrass Mountain Conference Champion with her first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly on Saturday, February 18, in Charlotte, N.C. Kyle also garnered all-league honors in the 100-yard butterfly after placing second.
