Greeneville, Tenn. - The Tusculum Baseball Team (37-7, 22-3) remained in sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic Conference with a 15-2 win over Lenoir-Rhyne (12-35, 8-17) Friday night at Pioneer Park. Tusculum is ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II.
The Pioneers' Aaron Guinn (Norris, Tenn.) finished with five hits including two home runs and drove in six runs to lead Tusculum to the win.
L-R freshman designated hitter Mike Mastroberti (Ramsey, N.J.) and freshman third baseman Landon Elks (Shelby, N.C.) both drove in runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 6-2 but Tusculum responded by scoring the game's final nine runs.
Tusculum ended the game with a six-run eighth inning highlighted by a three-run home run from Guinn, his second round-tripper of the contest.
The Pioneers' Heath Comerford (Athens, Tenn.) added four hits and two runs batted in as Tusculum finished with 18 hits on the evening.
Tusculum's Craig Goodman (Clearwater, Fla.) improved to 9-0 on the year after limiting L-R to just two runs while striking out nine batters in the victory. Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Christian Hicks (Charlotte, N.C.) fell to 1-5 with the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne and Tusculum wrap up the weekend conference series with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Pioneer Field.
