Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Aaron Nelson won the pole vault with a school-record 13'11.25" Friday on the first day of the Southeast Regional Championships at the Irwin Belk Track in Hickory, N.C.
Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Teams wrapped up the first day of the 2012 Southeast Regional Championship Friday at the Irwin Belk Track and Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
After the first day of events, Anderson leads the women's competition with 59 points while Mars Hill tops the men's squads with 46 points.
The L-R women's team is in eighth place with nine points while the Bears' men sit in seventh with 19 points.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Aaron Nelson (Mayodan, N.C.) won the men's pole vault with a school-record 13'11.25".
In the men's hammer throw, freshman Latham York (Huntersville, N.C.) finished fourth with a 124'6" while senior Jakob Maidens (Lebanon, Va.) was seventh in the men's javelin throw (124'2").
On the women's side, junior Samantha Levine (Wayne, N.J.) placed fourth overall in the javelin throw (109'8") and sophomore Megan Carper (Franklinton, N.C.) was sixth in the women's triple jump (31'2").
The second and final day of competition begins on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., with the long jump, discus, shot put and 110-meter high hurdles being the first events of the day.
