Starkville, Miss. - Ahead of its opening round playoff game on Friday, the Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team rose three spots to No. 12 in this week's NFCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll. NFCA is the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Lenoir-Rhyne (46-11) will face South Atlantic Conference-foe Catawba (33-17) in the opening round of the 2012 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament on Friday at Noon in Savannah, Ga.
The Bears are the third seed in the tournament while the Indians are seeded sixth.
The winner advances to play the winner of the contest between second-seed Armstrong Atlantic State (44-9) and seventh-seeded Flagler (34-17) on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. AASU, the host school of the regional tournament, is ranked No. 9 in the nation.
Lenoir-Rhyne earned its seventh consecutive berth to the Division II national tournament including eighth overall.
The Bears, 24-2 in their last 26 contests, are also coming off a conference regular season and tournament championship in 2012 for the third straight season.
The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions. Current 2012 records are shown, first-place votes are in parentheses.
