Three Lenoir-Rhyne Players Pick Up 2012 Preseason All-American Honors In Football

Leesburg, Va. - Three members of the L-R Football Team - senior defensive lineman Brandon Martin (Roebuck, S.C.), senior linebacker Demetrius Green (Cedartown, Ga.) and junior defensive back Michael Green (Kingsland, Ga.) - all earned 2012 NCAA Division II Preseason All-American honors by the Beyond Sports Network.
Demetrius Green was named to the first team while Martin and Michael Green were selected to the All-American second team.
Demetrius Green led the Bears with 77 tackles last season en route to being honored as the 2011 South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player Of The Year. Demetrius Green also earned all-region accolades last fall and is a two-time all-league first-team pick (2010-11).
A 2010 and 2011 All-South Atlantic Conference First-Team honoree as well, Martin finished with 26 tackles last season to go along with a team-high 5.5 quarterback sacks. Martin has also totaled 14 sacks in the past two years.
Michael Green earned all-conference honors as both a defensive back and return specialist last season.
In 2011, Michael Green finished second on the squad with 63 tackles in addition to picking off a team-high three passes en route to all-region and All-American accolades.
Michael Green also returned two punts for touchdowns last fall and led the league in punt return average (18.0 ypr).
All three players helped the Bears rank first in the conference and 10th in the nation in total defense at just over 284 yards per outing.
The trio also led Lenoir-Rhyne to its first South Atlantic Conference Championship in 17 years in 2011 as the Bears finished with a record of 7-3 overall and a 6-1 mark in league play.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which ended the regular season on a four-game winning streak, opens the 2012 campaign on Saturday, September 1, against Concord in Athens, W.Va., beginning at 7:00 p.m.
L-R hosts Davidson in its home opener on Saturday, September 8, at Moretz Stadium. Kickoff for the contest is set for 7:00 p.m.
