Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Cross Country Wins Its 2012 Home Invitational

Bears' men's cross country squad finishes third out of eight teams at the 2012 L-R Invitational

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Marie Mauhar led the Bears to a first-place finish Saturday morning at the 2012 L-R Invitational at Southside Park in Newton, N.C.

Newton, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Cross Country Team won the 2012 L-R Invitational Saturday morning at Southside Park, finishing first out of nine schools. 

The L-R men's squad was third out of eight teams while Radford won the men's race with four runners in the top six.

On the women's side, the Bears were led by sophomore Marie Mauhar (Mills River, N.C.).  Mauhar finished 10th overall with a time of 20:36 on the 5K course while senior Elizabeth Chaffee (Winston-Salem, N.C.) was 11th with a 20:40 for Lenoir-Rhyne.

Lees-McRae's Emily Shields was the top individual female in the race as she completed the course with a time of 19:56.

For the men, sophomore Mike York was the Bears' top runner as he ran the 8K course in 27:44 to place ninth overall.  L-R junior Aaron Nelson (Mayodan, N.C.) finished 14th with a time of 28:02 while Radford's Ryan Farnan placed first overall with a 26:38.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams will next compete on Saturday, September 29, at the Bulldog Invitational in Mount Pleasant, S.C., beginning at 9:00 a.m.  The meet is hosted by The Citadel.
