Railsplitters score with 12 seconds left in the second half to force overtime before the win
Lenoir-Rhyne senior midfielder Mehmet Karakilinc scored for the Bears in a 2-1 overtime loss to Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon in a league match in Harrogate, Tenn.
Harrogate, Tenn. - The Lincoln Memorial Men's Soccer Team (4-2, 1-2) scored just 28 seconds into overtime to rally and defeat Lenoir-Rhyne (1-4-2, 0-2-1), 2-1, Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference match.
The Railsplitters' Mario Pinto (Uberlandia, BRAZIL) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the year in the 91st minute of action to lift Lincoln Memorial to the win.
Pinto scored, unassisted, off a deflection by the Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper for the victory.
Lincoln Memorial had tied the contest at one with just 12 seconds left in the second half on a goal by Chris Nash (Cuffley, ENGLAND).
The match was scoreless until the 82nd minute when Lenoir-Rhyne senior midfielder Mehmet Karakilinc (Lanester, FRANCE) connected for a goal on a pass from freshman forward Tobias Tobrant (Boras, SWEDEN). The goal was Karakilinc's first of the season.
Marcel Barwanietz (Berlin, GERMANY) allowed just one score while making three saves for Lincoln Memorial, who held a 26-8 advantage in shots in the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior goalkeeper Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) took the loss despite stopping three shots.
L-R returns home to face Queens in a non-conference match on Monday beginning at 7:30 p.m., at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
Lenoir-Rhyne then plays Newberry in a South Atlantic Conference contest on the road next Saturday in Newberry, S.C., beginning at 4:30 p.m. Lincoln Memorial hosts Bethel (Tenn.) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
