Lenoir-Rhyne Swimming Opens Season At The North Carolina Collegiate Invitational

Greensboro, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's and Women's Swimming Teams opened the 2012-13 season Saturday at the All-North Carolina Invitational Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

On the men's side, the Bears finished 10th overall with 106 points while L-R tallied 37 points for a 13th-place finish in the women's competition. 

North Carolina State won both the men's and women's team competition at the two-day meet.

L-R freshman Leah Watts (Newton, N.C.) set a new school record in the women's 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:45.87, good for 14th-place overall.

Sophomore Kyle Hites (Lenoir, N.C.) placed 13th in the men's 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.41 and was 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.47).

Watts also placed 24th in the women's 100-yard backstroke (1:02.85) and 27th in the women's 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.16).

Freshman Nicholas Gibson (Hickory, N.C.) was 21st in the men's 400-yard individual medley (4:22.56) and freshman Jonathan Hofrichter (Tampa, Fla.) finished the men's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.19 and 25th overall.

In the 200-yard medley relays, the Bears' women's squad was 26th overall (1:59.47) while the men's team was 21st with a time of 1:41.69.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams will compete in a tri-meet against Warren Wilson and Mars Hill on Friday in Mars Hill, N.C., beginning at 5:00 p.m.
