Lenoir-Rhyne Cross Country Competes In The Royals Challenge

L-R's men's squad finished ninth while the women's team placed 11th

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Marie Mauhar was the top individual for the Bears' women's squad Friday afternoon at the Royals Cross Country Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C.

Charlotte, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams finished ninth and 11th, respectively, Friday afternoon at the Queens University Royals Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park.

On the men's side, L-R was led by sophomore Mike York (Kannapolis, N.C.).  York finished the 8K course in 42nd place with a time of 26:26 while sophomore Ripken LaMarsh (Pasadena, Md.) placed 56th overall (26:50).

Liberty won the men's championship and had the four top runners in the race led by David Ricksecker (24:07).

The L-R women were paced by a sophomore Marie Mauhar (Mills River, N.C.), who finished 48th with a time of 19:00 over 5K.  Lenoir-Rhyne senior Elizabeth Chaffee (Winston-Salem, N.C.) finished 53rd overall with a 19:06.

Duke took home the women's championship while Florida State's Carly Thomas (17:38) was the top collegiate individual.

A total of 21 schools competed on the men's side while the women's competition featured 25 schools in all.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams will next compete in the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships next Saturday in Greeneville, Tenn.
