Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore outside hitter Haley Rhyne tallied a career-high 25 kills in a 3-2 victory over Anderson in a conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon in Anderson, S.C.
Anderson, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (12-6, 7-3) rebounded with a 3-2 win over Anderson (10-11, 3-8) Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center. The Bears won over the Trojans by scores of 17-25, 25-18, 25-23, 17-25 and 15-7.
L-R sophomore outside hitter Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) led the way with a career-high 25 kills while freshman outside hitter Morgan Bunker (Mount Airy, N.C.) added 12 kills and 24 digs in the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman outside hitter Ashley Wells (Lovingston, Va.) tallied 15 kills and freshman setter Briana Gottberg (Mooresville, N.C.) came through with a double-double - 31 assists and 12 digs - as the Bears swept the season series from the Trojans.
Anderson's Shannon Gillespie (Fishers, Ind.) finished with 18 kills and Meghan Cautero (Naples, Fla.) added 44 assists but the Trojans lost a five-set match to the Bears for the second time this year.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which sits a half-match out of first place in the SAC standings, also improved to 4-0 against conference foes this year in five-set contests.
L-R faces St. Augustine's in the Lees-McRae Tournament in Banner Elk, N.C., on Friday at 5:00 p.m. Anderson plays at Lincoln Memorial on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
