Rock Hill, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne University's Meredith Lutz has been named the South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Specialist Of The Week, league officials announced this afternoon.
Lutz, a senior setter from Newton, N.C., averaged 40.3 assists and 8.7 digs in leading Lenoir-Rhyne to three wins this past weekend at the Lees-McRae Tournament in Banner Elk, N.C.
Lutz tallied a near triple-double - 53 assists, 15 digs and nine kills - in L-R's 3-2 victory over Lander last Saturday in the final match of the tournament after the Bears were down two sets.
Lutz also tallied 30 and 38 assists, respectively, in 3-0 wins over Saint Augustine's and Lees-McRae at the tournament as well.
Lutz currently leads Lenoir-Rhyne this season in assists (563) and is second in service aces (18) and third in digs with 189.
Catawba's Kaitlyn Whitmer was named the South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player Of The Week.
Lenoir-Rhyne (15-6, 7-3) returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday when the Bears host Brevard (9-11, 1-9) at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Bears will enter the match winners of four straight contests.
