Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Ranked Seventh In First Regional Poll Of The Year

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team is ranked seventh in the first NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Poll of the season. L-R is currently 16-8 on the season with an 8-5 mark in the South Atlantic Conference.

The Bears are being led this season by sophomore outside hitter Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) with 288 kills and senior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) with 645 assists and 214 digs.

In addition, sophomore defensive specialist Emily Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) has a team-high 373 digs while junior middle blocker Kayla Morrow (China Grove, N.C.) leads the squad with 69 blocks.

Lenoir-Rhyne will return to action on Friday evening when the Bears host Lincoln Memorial (17-10, 9-4) in a key conference match at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m.

L-R will also wrap up its home portion of the regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon against league-foe Carson-Newman at 2:00 p.m.  The Bears are currently 8-1 at home this year.

The NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Poll is made up of three conferences:  South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas. 

The winners of the three conference tournaments in the region receive automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.  The poll is used to fill out the rest of the squads with the top team serving as the host school.

Wingate (first), Tusculum (fourth), Lincoln Memorial (fifth) and Newberry (sixth) are the other four South Atlantic Conference schools represented in the standings this week.
