Anderson, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women’s Golf Team finished what it had started yesterday and won the Anderson Invitational on Tuesday with a 656 (+80) at Cobb’s Glen Country Club. Meanwhile, L-R junior Brenna Martens (St. Croix Falls, Wisc.) took home individual honors with a 156 (+12), winning by one stroke over Tusculum’s Katie Doane.
L-R shaved two more strokes off its lead to post a day-two 327 and defeated Tusculum (665, +89) by nine shots. Seven women’s teams took part in the tournament. Sophomore Katie Thackerson (Earl, N.C.) tied for eighth overall with a 166 (+22) for the Bears as well.
On the men’s side, Lenoir-Rhyne finished ninth with a 625 (+37) while Lincoln Memorial won with a 598 (+10).
Freshman Jason Garrett (Durham, N.C.) was the Bears' top golfer in the tournament as he carded a 149 (+5), good for ninth place. North Greenville's Brad Caldwell (even-par 144) won in a playoff.
Freshman Brandon Squier (Advance, N.C.) tied for 14th overall with a 152 (+8) as L-R's No. 2 golfer in the tournament.
The L-R Men’s Golf Team next competes in the Tusculum Fall Golf Classic (September 28 and 29) in Greeneville, Tenn., while the women hosts the L-R/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate (October 5 and 6) in Calabash, N.C.
