Bears run their winning streak to four matches with the victory over the Tars

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (8-4, 5-1) moved into a first-place tie in the Deep South Conference standings with a 10-4 win over Rollins (3-8, 2-3) Thursday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.
Junior Tyler Kotch (Butler, Pa.) and sophomore Connor Squires (Lawrenceville, Ga.) both tallied a pair of goals and an assist as the Bears won their fourth straight match.
Meanwhile, junior Steven McGhee (Durham, N.C.) tallied 18 saves in goal for the Bears as well.
McGhee allowed just four goals, all in the third period, and improved to 8-1 on the season.
Rollins was led by Jack Dever (Huntington, N.Y.) with two goals but the Tars saw their two-match winning streak come to an end.
Lenoir-Rhyne opened a 4-0 lead entering intermission and withstood a rally by the Tars in the third period en route to the win.
Sophomore Ned Kaish (Atlanta, Ga.) also scored twice while junior Sam Ashton (New Market, Md.) added a goal and dished out three assists for the Bears, who held the advantage in both shots taken (40-36) and ground balls (37-32).
Kaish, Kotch and Squires are all tied for the team lead in goals scored with 21 so far this year.
Rollins' goalkeeper, Hunt Bartram (Darien, Conn.), suffered the setback. Bartram finished the match with nine saves in the losing effort.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to take on Tampa in a league showdown on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Rollins, meanwhile, plays Catawba in Salisbury, N.C., on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., as well. L-R is currently tied with Saint Leo for first place in the Deep South Conference standings.
