Senior guard Brittany Mitch tallied a season-high 27 points in L-R's 80-72 victory over UNC Pembroke on Saturday afternoon at the Biltmore Farms/Mars Hill Classic.
Mars Hill, N.C. – The No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne University Women’s Basketball Team (2-1) knocked off UNC Pembroke (2-2), 80-72, Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in the Biltmore Farms/Mars Hill Classic at Stanford Arena. Senior guard Brittany Mitch (McLean, Va.) led the Bears with a game-high 27 points to go along with seven rebounds in the victory.
L-R led by as many as 25 points and never trailed in the contest. The Braves battled back to cut the lead to five twice in the second half, but L-R was 56 percent from beyond the arc compared to just a 28 percent night from deep for UNC Pembroke.
Sophomore guard Cameron Sealey (Gaston, N.C.) added 16 points and nine rebounds in the win for L-R.
Forward JaToya Kemp (Elizabethtown, N.C.) led UNC Pembroke with 19 points while Chevoya Jackson (Goldsboro, N.C.) and Illya Hunt (Raleigh, N.C.) each chipped in 12 points in the loss.
The Bears have now scored 80 or more points in each of their three contests.
L-R will play its home opener on Tuesday night against its fourth straight Peach Belt Conference opponent as it takes on USC Aiken at 5:30 p.m., in Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
