PEF/Bears Club Hosts The 2010 Board Of Trustees Dinner

Hickory, N.C. - The PEF/Bears Club, the official fundraising arm for Lenoir-Rhyne University Athletics, hosted the 2010 Board Of Trustees Dinner on Tuesday, August 3, at the Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory, N.C.
The dinner, which acknowledges the athletic accomplishments of the past year and helps usher in the new season for L-R Athletics, was highlighted by the annual check to Lenoir-Rhyne.
This year, PEF/Bears Club President Jon Swift presented a check for $717,010 to Dr. Wayne Powell, President Of The College.
The PEF/Bears Club also honored its Dr. Rufus L. Moretz Scholar-Athletes Of The Year, given annually to the male and female student-athletes with the highest grade point averages, and the school's four All-Americans for 2009-10.
Junior Brittany Davidson (Fort Defiance, Va.), a member of the softball team, was the female scholar-athlete of the year, while senior Jake Stuckey (Stony Point, N.C.) and junior Jamie Fisher (Millersville, Md.) were named the male co-scholar-athletes of the year. Both are members of the L-R men's cross country and track and field teams. Stuckey wins the award for the second straight year.
L-R's four All-Americans last year were junior Kate Griewisch (Banner Elk, N.C.) for women's cross country, sophomore Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) for women's soccer and senior Kat Rivers (Royston, Ga.) and junior Sarah Atkins (Newport News, Va.) for softball.
The Bears Club also held a raffle for a trip in December to watch North Carolina and Texas compete in men's basketball in Greensboro, N.C. The trip went for $2,000 with all the proceeds going to Lenoir-Rhyne's student-athletes.
Finally, former Wake Forest and South Carolina Head Men's Basketball Coach Dave Odom was the keynote speaker.
