Greenville, N.C. - The East Carolina University Men's Basketball Team (4-2) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University (1-3), 71-48, Wednesday evening inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

The Pirates' Jontae Sherrod (Tarboro, N.C.) led all scorers with 14 points while Brock Young (Raleigh, N.C.) added 11 points for East Carolina, who limited Lenoir-Rhyne to just 33 percent shooting (18-of-54) in the win.

For the Bears, freshman guard R.J. McClure (Canton, N.C.) finished with a team-high eight points while sophomore guard Alex Watkins (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman guard Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) added seven points each in the losing effort.

East Carolina built a 36-18 halftime margin and pushed its lead to as many as 27 points (70-43) with 3:37 remaining in the contest.

The Pirates also held a 36-27 rebounding edge and hit 11 three-pointers on the night led by Young's three treys.

The two teams were meeting for the first time since the 1965-66 campaign, when L-R prevailed by a 62-60 score in the last outing.

Lenoir-Rhyne does not play again until Wednesday, December 1, when it hosts Shaw at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 7 p.m.  East Carolina, a member of NCAA Division I and Conference USA, hosts UNC Greensboro Saturday at 5 p.m.
