Lenoir-Rhyne Swimming Finishes The Shark Invitational With More Records

Bears break 32 records in the four-day event
|The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams finished with a total of 32 records after their performance this past weekend at the Nova Southeastern Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.|
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's and Women's Swimming Teams broke 32 records in all as the squads wrapped up its four-day performance at the Nova Southeastern University Shark Invitational this past weekend.
On Saturday, the Bears saw six records fall led by sophomore Alec Reitzel (Hickory, N.C.). Reitzel broke the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.06) records and was part of L-R's record-breaking 200-yard medley squad (1:47.84).
The relay team consisted of freshman J.C. DellaMea (Charlotte, N.C.), Reitzel, sophomore Teddy Esch (Lenoir, N.C.) and freshman Brett Hutchins (Morganton, N.C.).
On the women's side Saturday, sophomore Carlie Pendleton (Jamestown, N.C.) broke the school record in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.69) and teamed with sophomore Gina Glenn (Matthews, N.C.), junior Lindsay Atkin (Hickory, N.C.) and freshman Caroline Mills (Cary, N.C.) to set a new record in the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.71).
On Sunday, Reitzel captured the school mark in the 100-yard freestyle (49.09) while Esch now holds the L-R record in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.57).
Finally, the 400-yard freestyle relay squad - Reitzel, Esch, DellaMea and freshman Shane Courtney (Hendersonville, N.C.) - finished with a program-best 3:24.32.
Tampa took home both the men's and women's titles in the meet while Lenoir-Rhyne placed sixth on both sides.
