Lenoir-Rhyne's Brian Dice On The 2011 Tino Martinez Award Watch List

Award given annually to the NCAA Division II Player Of The Year

Hickory, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne University's Brian Dice has been named to the 2011 Tino Martinez Award Watch List.  The award is given annually to the NCAA Division II Player Of The Year.

Dice, a senior catcher from Hickory, N.C., earned First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors last year as a designated hitter after leading the team in batting average (.435), hits (74), runs batted in (59), total bases (137) and slugging percentage (.806).

Dice also put togther a 22-game hitting streak and hit 16 home runs en route to NCAA Division II Rawlings/ABCA All-Southeast Second-Team honors in 2010 as well.

Dice is currently batting .350 with two home runs and three runs batted in this year for Lenoir-Rhyne.

This is second year for the Tino Martinez Award.  Erskine's Bryan Fogle was the initial winner in 2010. 

Ninety-one student-athletes comprise the initial watch list for the 2011 Tino Martinez Award.  The annual honor is named after the former University of Tampa Spartan, Olympian, first round draft pick and Major League Baseball All-Star, Tino Martinez.

Lenoir-Rhyne (1-5) hosts California (Pennsylvania) on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., at Bears Field.
