Pittsburg, Kan. – Lenoir-Rhyne University's
P.J. Lotharp earned All-American honors after finishing seventh in the finals of the men's 60-meter dash Saturday at the 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships at the at Robert W. Plaster Center. Pittsburg State University is serving as the host institution of the meet.
Academy of Art's Mobolade Ajomale won the individual championship with a time of 6.60 seconds.
Lotharp, a sophomore from Indian Trail, N.C., clocked a 6.80 seconds in the finals after setting a new school record (6.75) in the preliminaries on Friday. Lotharp, who also competed in the preliminary round of the 200-meter dash on Friday, becomes the second All-American in indoor track and field in school history (Kevin Baxter in the men's 60-meter hurdles in 2013 and 2015).
Lotharp is the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Champion in the 200-meter dash, an event he also holds the program record (21.62 seconds in the preliminaries). In addition, Lotharp earned 2018 USTFCCCA NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region honors in indoor track in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dash.
The outdoor season begins for Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday, March 16, and Saturday, March 17, at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C.
