Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team (11-5, 2-3) fought to the very end but came up just short by a 5-4 score to Newberry (17-4, 4-1) Wednesday afternoon at the YMCA of Catawba Valley in a South Atlantic Conference match.

One of the biggest victories for the Bears came from sophomore Tales Miranda (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL).  At second singles, Miranda downed Newberry's Jose Navarro (Cadiz, SPAIN) by a score of 5-7, 7-5 and 6-1.  Navarro came into the contest ranked No. 11 in the region.

Both teams return to South Atlantic Conference action on Friday.  Lenoir-Rhyne takes on Tusculum in Greeneville, Tenn., at 1:00 p.m., while Newberry hosts Lincoln Memorial Friday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m.
