Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University's Women's Swimming Team came out triumphant over Barton College 154.50–105.50 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Shuford Physical Education Center.
The ladies started off the afternoon with a win in the 400 medley relay. The team consisting of sophomore
Kiana Schumacher (Fort Branch, Ind.), freshman
Kimberly Scheiber (Pleizenhausen, Germany), freshman
Elizabeth Bowman (Thomasville, N.C.) and sophomore
Lauren Rutherford (Bel Air, M.D.) touched the wall in a time of 4:08.94.
The Bears were led by Scheiber and Bowman who won two individual events for the meet. Scheiber garnered wins in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.98) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:46.29), while Bowman took first place in the 50-yard freestyle (25.52) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.16).
Other individual event winners for the Lady Bears included: sophomore
Sarah Helfert (1,000-yard freestyle, 11:30.46), junior
Jessica Myers (200-yard freestyle, 2:04.88), sophomore
Kelsey Krumanocker (1:03.09), sophomore
Kiana Schumacher (2:16.22), and senior
Alyx Koert (500-yard freestyle, 5:30.36).
In addition, the Bears 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Bowman, Rutherford, Myers, and Scheiber came out victorious in a time of 3:46.18.
Next up, the Women's Swimming Team travels to Salisbury, N.C., on Saturday, January 19, where they will take on Catawba and Wingate for their final double-dual meet of the season.
