HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams will be sending a program-best 11 student-athletes to the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Alexis Brown, who won the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes at the NCAA Indoor Championships, qualified for three events in the outdoor edition of the track and field championships.
The sophomore from Mableton, Ga., will represent LR in the women's 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay. Brown won the SAC Outdoor Championship in both the 100-meter and 4x100-meter races.
Meanwhile, the winner of the women's 200-meter dash, Victoria Aransiola, will also represent the Bears in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The freshman will also compete alongside Brown in the 100-meter dash and 4x100-meter relay.
The other three LR participants of the 4x100-meter relay will be Holly Kone, Melody Jones and Damyja Ortiz. Kone, the junior from Nottingham, England, also qualified for the triple jump event while Jones, the junior from Chicago, will be a part of the 100-meter hurdles.
Over on the men's side, Jacob Wadsworth also qualified for three unique events in the men's decathlon, long jump and 4x400-meter relay. The senior from Dansville, N.Y., won the long jump and 4x400-meter relay at the SAC Outdoor Championships.
Joining Wadsworth on the 4x400-meter relay team are Clarence McGill, Bamidele Ajayi, Olawole Olanrewaju, and Marcus Crumpler. The group had a first-place time of 3:08.32 in the SAC Outdoor Championships.
In addition to their selection into the relay team, McGill qualified for the men's 400-meter hurdles while Ajayi and Olanrewaju will represent LR in the men' 400-meter race. In the NCAA Indoor Championships, Ajayi finished 12th with a time of 48.33 in the 400-meter event.
Lastly, in the men's triple jump, Nick Henriques qualified for the Bears. In the outdoor season, the junior from Acworth, Ga., had a personal-best leap of 15.44 meters.
The 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will begin on Thursday, May 23, in Emporia, Kan. The three-day event is being hosted by Emporia State University.
