ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne football team has placed six individuals on this year's All-SAC team, as voted on by the conference coaches.
Tye Roberson was awarded All-Conference First Team honors as a return specialist while defensive back
Desmond Greene earned First Team Defense.
Ryan Whetzel II,
Rubens Joseph, and
Songa Yates were name to the Second Team Offense, with
James Ussery earning Second Team Defense.
Roberson was a menace in the return game this season, leading Division II and setting a new school record with an average of 41.9 yards per kick return. He returned 12 total kicks this year for 503 yards. Three of those kicks were ran back for touchdowns, which tied him for the national lead. He had long returns of 98, 95, and 87 yards this season. Greene was the conference lead and tied for sixth nationally with five interceptions. The highlight of his season came when he tallied two interceptions and seven tackles in a 32-25 victory over Gulf South champions Valdosta State. He finished the season with 45 total tackles, six pass breakups, 1.5 TFL, and one fumble recovery.
Whetzel II and Joseph have been staples of the Lenoir-Rhyne offensive line for four years, having won 37 games in the Bear uniform. This season they were a key part of an offensive line that paved the way for 18 rushing touchdowns and were one of just 14 teams across the country that didn't have a kick or punt blocked. Lenoir-Rhyne's top receiver, Yates finished the season with 47 receptions for 742 yards and seven touchdowns. His 82.4 yards per game were third in the SAC and his seven touchdowns were fourth. His 18 career receiving touchdowns places him fourth in Lenoir-Rhyne football history. Ussery led the Bears with eight pass breakups and was second with 60 total tackles. He finished the season with three tackles for loss, one interception, one QB hurry, and forced and recovered a fumble at Mars Hill.
