Barton Men's Basketball Edges Lenoir-Rhyne, 87-83, To Sweep Season Series

Wilson, N.C. ? The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men?s Basketball Team (2-5)?fell to Barton College (5-1), 87-83, Tuesday night after nearly overcoming an 11-point deficit with under a minute to play in regulation.

Junior forward D.J. Blackmon (Albemarle, N.C.)?led the Bears with 15 points and nine rebounds despite the second loss to the Bulldogs this year.

L.J. Dunn (Raleigh, N.C.) produced 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Barton.? Jaren Haley (Woodbridge, Va.) added 16 points while Eddie Kershaw (Youngstown, Ohio)?chipped in 17 points to go along with six boards in the win for the Bulldogs.

Barton upended L-R in double-overtime, 103-92, at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium on November 24.?

A late surge by the Bears brought the second meeting between the two teams down to the wire, forcing the Bulldogs to make six-of-six free throws in the final 20 seconds to secure the win.

Freshman guard Kameko Walls (Winston-Salem, N.C.) made two treys and Blackmon made one in the final minute to draw L-R as close as two points at 85-83 with just one second to play but Barton?s Gerald Boston (Burlington,?N.C.)?closed the door at the charity stripe.

Boston posted a game-high 12 assists to go along with 11 points to earn the double-double for the Bulldogs.

The Bears went eight-of-16 from beyond the arc in the second half to remain within striking distance in the contest.

Freshman Alex Watkins (Charlotte, N.C.)?scored 13 points for L-R while senior guard Marcus Hodges (Wake Forest, N.C.) contributed 11 points and three assists.

L-R will head to Savannah, Ga., on December 18 to face St. Augustine in the first of two games in the Hampton Inn & Suites Fall Classic.? Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
