A Message from the Office of Athletic's Compliance
"Every time a Lenoir-Rhyne student-athlete or team enjoys success, it is a reason for supporters of LR and its Athletic Department to celebrate. The goal of Lenoir-Rhyne University Athletic Department is to ensure family, friends and fans that the University is not sacrificing the integrity of intercollegiate athletics in its pursuit of excellence.
We all enjoy a Bears' win, but it is important to follow ALL NCAA rules governing the recruitment and treatment of student-athletes. The conduct of each and every Lenoir-Rhyne athletic program is a reflection of the institute as a whole. To ensure compliance, we must take responsibility for the actions of the student-athletes, staff members, and any other individual or organization involved in promoting Lenoir-Rhyne Athletics.
The intent of this site is to provide you with a summary of the rules that apply to you. Take a few moments to read the information found on the compliance site. The Lenoir-Rhyne Athletic Department appreciates your compliance efforts because violations could affect the eligibility of both current and prospective student-athletes. Since it is not possible to cover all NCAA legislation that may apply to you on this site, please forward any additional questions to our compliance office."

EADA Report

In accordance with the requirements of the Equity in Athletics in Disclosure Act, Lenoir-Rhyne University prepares an annual report on its intercollegiate men's and women's athletic program participation rates and financial support data. Institutions are required to make this report available to campus community members including students, prospective students and the public by October 15th each year.  Lenoir-Rhyne's report is below and on file with the Office of the Assoc. Athletic Director of Internal Operations and the Admissions Office. If you wish to receive a paper copy of this report, please contact (828) 328-7042. 13.01.4 Recruiting by Representatives of Athletics Interests.
Representatives of an institution's athletics interests (as defined in Bylaw 13.02.12) are prohibited from making in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts or telephone calls with a prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete's relatives or legal guardians. On-campus contact is permitted, as are written communications. Recruiting contacts by representatives during a prospective student-athlete's official visit are confined to campus. 13.02.10 Recruiting.
Recruiting is any solicitation of a prospective student-athlete or a prospective student-athlete's relatives [or legal guardian(s)] by an institutional staff member or by a representative of the institution's athletics interests for the purpose of securing the prospective student-athlete's enrollment and ultimate participation in the institution's intercollegiate athletics program.
13.02.10.1 Recruited Prospective Student-Athlete.
Actions by staff members or athletics representatives that cause a prospective student-athlete to become a recruited prospective student-athlete at that institution are: (Revised: 1/10/90, 1/11/94 effective 8/1/94 for those students entering a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/94)
(a) Providing the prospective student-athlete with an official visit; (Adopted: 1/11/94 effective 8/1/94 for those students entering a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/94)
(b) Having an arranged, in-person, off-campus encounter with the prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete's relatives or legal guardian(s); (Adopted: 1/11/94 effective 8/1/94 for those students entering a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/94, Revised: 1/9/06)
(c) Initiating or arranging a telephone contact with the prospective student-athlete, the prospective student-athlete's relatives or legal guardian(s) on more than one occasion for the purpose of recruitment; or (Revised: 1/11/94 effective 8/1/94 for those students entering a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/94)
(d) Issuing a National Letter of Intent or the institution's written offer of athletically related financial aid to a prospective student-athlete. (Adopted: 1/9/06)
13.02.12 Representative of Athletics Interests.
A "representative of the institution's athletics interests" is an individual who is known (or who should have been known) by a member of the institution's executive or athletics administration to:
(a) Have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization, including corporate entities (e.g., apparel and equipment companies), promoting the institution's intercollegiate athletics program; (Revised: 1/14/02)
(b) Have made financial contributions to the athletics department or to an athletics booster organization of that institution;
(c) Be assisting or to have been requested (by the athletics department staff) to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes;
(d) Be assisting or to have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families; or
(e) Have been involved otherwise in promoting the institution's athletics program.
13.02.12.1 Representative of Athletics Interest.
Once an individual is identified as such a representative, the person retains that identity indefinitely.
