Lenoir-Rhyne Overwhelms Limestone, 5-0, In Women's Soccer Tuesday

Gaffney, S.C. ? Five players scored goals for Lenoir-Rhyne University (2-1) in its 5-0 victory over Limestone College (0-3) Tuesday afternoon at Saints Field in women's soccer action.

Sophomore forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.), a 2008 First-Team All-SAC and all-region pick, got things going in the 15th minute when she scored her first goal of the year.? Junior forward Rebecca Lin (Northridge, Calif.) assisted on the play.

The Bears made it 2-0 at the 28:31 mark when freshman midfielder Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) tallied her third goal of 2009 with freshman midfielder Marianne Broevik (Drammen, NORWAY).? Hawes has scored a goal in every match so far this year.

L-R, which held a 26-3 advantage in shots taken, put the game away when senior defender Shannon Agnew (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 49th minute.? Broevik was again credited with the assist.

Junior defender Margaret Schenk (Hickory, N.C.) and Lin rounded out the scoring for the Bears in the 74th and 79th minutes, respectively.

Senior Katelyn Burwell (Carthage, N.C.) and freshman Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) each played a half in goal for the Bears with Burwell picking up the win.? Scruggs, meanwhile, notched a pair of saves.

Lin and Linehan both finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Flagler on Friday night beginning at 8 p.m.
