No. 8 Carson-Newman Shuts Out Lenoir-Rhyne, 1-0, In Women's Soccer League Showdown

Jefferson City, Tenn. ? The No. 8 Carson-Newman College Women?s Soccer Team (9-0, 1-0) remained perfect on the season with a 1-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (8-2, 1-1) Sunday evening in a South Atlantic Conference showdown at McCown Field in Jefferson City, Tenn.? The Bears also saw their seven-match winning streak snapped in the process.

The Eagles scored the match?s lone goal in the 49th minute when Lizeth Munguia (Wilmington, N.C.) scored off a corner kick with the Bear goalkeeper out of position.? Nikki Brannen (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) and Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) were both credited with the assist.

Carson-Newman held a 16-10 advantage in shots while the Eagles? goalkeeper, Lauren McKenzie (Barrie, O.N.), picked up the shutout as she tallied four saves.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior goalkeeper Katelyn Burwell (Carthage, N.C.) suffered the loss despite allowing just one goal and saving a shot.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Mount Olive on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
