Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Downs Mount Olive, 4-1, Behind Another Hat Trick

Hickory, N.C. ? The Lenoir-Rhyne Women?s Soccer Team (9-2) had plenty of offense on Tuesday night at the Moretz Sports ? Athletic Complex as it knocked off Mount Olive (4-5-2), 4-1.? The game marks the fourth time an L-R player has posted a hat trick during the 2009 campaign as sophomore co-captain Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) became the fourth different Bear this year to score three times in a match.

Freshman forward Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) started the scoring early for L-R when she put home a tidy touch pass from sophomore forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.)? just outside the six-yard box.? The goal was Hawes? team-leading tenth of the season.

The Bears owned most of the possession for the entire night, as windy conditions forced them to keep the ball on ground.? Hauck opened the second half scoring at the 49:44 mark, when she won a 50/50 ball 35 yards from goal and drove a dipping blast into the top right corner to make the score 2-0.

At the 60:56 mark, Linehan beat her defender down the right side and drove a hip-high serve across the face of the goal.? Hauck then took the ball out of mid-air to drive home her second goal of the game and give L-R the 3-0 advantage.

Mount Olive was left to simply counter-attack as the Bears controlled possession, and at the 72:49 mark, sophomore forward Felicia Dracz (Welland, Ontario, CANADA) capitalized on a chance.? Dracz caught freshman goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) in an awkward spot and chipped in from 20 yards out on the left side to get the Trojans on the board.?

After the goal, the Bears tightened everything up and continued to go to goal.? In the 80th minute, L-R earned a penalty kick after sustained offensive pressure.? Hauck put the 12-yard strike in the left side to round out her hat trick.

The Bears had a staggering 30 shots including 13 on frame.? Scruggs made two saves to earn the win in goal for L-R while sophomore Lyndsey McIntyre (Leesburg, Va.) made nine saves despite the loss for Mount Olive.

L-R returns home this Friday as it hosts Young Harris.? Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Moretz Sports ? Athletic Complex.
