Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Battles No. 16 Belmont Abbey To A Scoreless Tie

Belmont, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team (9-1-1) spoiled Belmont Abbey College's (12-0-1) bid for a perfect season after drawing the Crusaders to a 0-0 double overtime tie Monday afternoon at Alumni Field.? Belmont Abbey entered the match ranked No. 16 in NCAA Division II.

Lenoir-Rhyne, which extended its non-losing streak to nine matches, held a 13-5 advantage in shots and recorded its third straight shutout.

The two goalkeepers, L-R sophomore Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) and Belmont Abbey's Anna Donaldson (Neptune Beach, Calif.) each held the other team scoreless for 110 minutes.? Scruggs picked up three saves while Donaldson stopped six shots.

In the recent NCAA Division II Southeast Regional?rankings, Lenoir-Rhyne is sixth while Belmont Abbey entered the contest ranked third.? The Bears are also off to their best start in school history after 11 matches.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday when it takes on Mars Hill in Mars Hill, N.C., beginning at 7 p.m.

Belmont Abbey, meanwhile, travels to Due West, S.C., to face Erskine in a Conference Carolinas contest on Saturday at 2 p.m.
