Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Rallies Past Mars Hill, 2-1

Mars Hill, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team (10-1-1, 5-0) remained perfect in the South Atlantic Conference with a late goal in downing Mars Hill College (6-4-2, 2-3-2), 2-1, Wednesday night at Meares Stadium.? L-R also moved into sole possession of first place in the league standings.

Senior defender Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season from 10 yards out on a breakaway?with under 11 minutes to play to lift the Bears to the win.

In addition, L-R also extended its non-losing streak to 10 matches as it increased its mark to 9-0-1 during that span.? Lenoir-Rhyne also came into the contest ranked seventh in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Poll.

Both teams tallied a goal in the first half on headers off corner kicks.? L-R's goal came first courtesy of junior midfielder Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) in the 16th minute.? Senior midfielder Audrey Moore (Dublin, IRELAND) took the corner and was credited with the assist.? Hauck was credited with the assist on Holt's game-winner as well.

The Lions tied it just before halftime, in the 40th minute, when Brittany Downs (Orlando, Fla.) headed in Artavia Murray's (Greensboro, N.C.) corner kick.

Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.), the reigning South Atlantic Conference Player Of The Week, picked up the win for L-R after allowing just one goal while making five saves.? Mars Hill's goalkeeper, Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.), suffered the loss despite stopping four shots.

Lenoir-Rhyne, off to its best start ever, returns home to take on Newberry in a South Atlantic Conference match on Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m.? Mars Hill, meanwhile, plays King in Bristol, Tenn., on Saturday at 1 p.m.
