Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Shuts Out Lincoln Memorial, 1-0, In Conference Tournament Opener

Hickory, N.C. ? The top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne Women?s Soccer Team (14-2-1) shut out eighth-seeded Lincoln Memorial (10-7), 1-0, Tuesday evening at the Moretz Sports ? Athletic Complex in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament.

L-R will now face fourth-seeded Newberry in the tournament semifinals Friday at 3 p.m., at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C.? Newberry defeated Mars Hill, the No. 5 seed, by a 2-1 score in the first round at home this afternoon.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior midfielder Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) scored the lone goal of the match just 6:37 into the contest with a shot from about 35 yards out that grazed the fingertips of the Lincoln Memorial goalkeeper and landed in the back corner of the net.? The goal was Hauck?s sixth of the year.

L-R, the 2010 SAC Regular Season Co-Champions, was in control throughout the match as it held a 21-3 advantage in shots and defeated Lincoln Memorial for the second time this year.

Bear sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) stopped two shots to pick up the win as the Bears registered their eighth shutout of the year.? Lincoln Memorial goalkeeper Sarah Thompson (Frederick, Md.) suffered the loss despite allowing just one goal while tallying seven saves.
