Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women?s Soccer Team (1-0) opened its 2010 campaign on a high note with a 3-0 victory over Limestone College (0-1) Thursday night at the Moretz Sports ? Athletic Complex.
Three different players scored for L-R and the Bears held a 30-2 shot advantage in improving its all-time mark against Limestone to 9-0-1.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior defender Jessica Schob (Ione, Calif.) opened the scoring at the 10:27 mark of the first half.? Schob punched in her own saved shot which was deflected back to her off a corner kick.
L-R scored on another corner kick in the 34th minute when senior defender Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.) kicked in a?ball from sophomore midfielder Dana Hillmann (Berlin, GERMANY).
Bear sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.), a 2009 First-Team All-American and South Atlantic Conference Player Of The Year, rounded out the scoring at the 78:47 mark of the second half when she intercepted a pass down the left side and placed in her first goal of the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Rebecca Ingram (Buford, Ga.) saved two shots in goal to pick up the shutout while Limestone goalkeeper Kristen Alderin-Fleagle (Kernersville, N.C.) suffered the lost despite picking up 10 saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road to face UNC Pembroke on Sunday beginning at 5 p.m.? Limestone, meanwhile, returns home to face?Mars Hill on Sunday at 2 p.m.
