Pembroke, N.C. ? The UNC Pembroke Women?s Soccer Team (2-0) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University (1-1), 4-1, Sunday evening at Varsity Grounds in Pembroke, N.C.
The Braves? Anna Svensson (Norrkoping, SWEDEN) tallied a hat trick and UNC Pembroke built a 3-0 lead entering halftime en route to the win.
UNC Pembroke?s Faye Corbett (Gothenburg, SWEDEN) opened the scoring in the 21st minute when she scored from close range with a shot to the far post for the goal.? Kayla Colon (Jacksonville, N.C.) was credited with the assist for the Braves.? Colon finished with two assists in the contest.
Svensson then scored a pair of goals less than three minutes apart in the 31:46 and 34:35 marks of the first half, respectively, as UNC Pembroke built a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Lenoir-Rhyne finally got on the board when junior forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) scored her first goal of the year, unassisted, in the 57th minute of the second half.
However, Svensson responded for UNC Pembroke with her third and final goal with less than eight minutes remaining in the match.
UNC Pembroke?s Britney Bennett (Seminole, Fla.) stopped two shots and allowed just one goal in picking up the win while L-R redshirt freshman Rebecca Ingram (Buford, Ga.) suffered the loss despite?two saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Pfeiffer on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.? UNC Pembroke, meanwhile, hosts Barton at 4:30 p.m., on Wednesday.
