No. 9 Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Overwhelms Mars Hill, 7-0

Senior All-American midfieder Catherine Hauck scored twice to lead No. 9 Lenoir-Rhyne to a 7-0 win over Mars Hill in a South Atlantic Conference match Wednesday evening at Hickory, N.C.

Hickory, N.C. - The ninth-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team (11-1, 6-0) won its school-record 10th straight match with a 7-0 victory over Mars Hill College (6-7-1, 2-5) Wednesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference contest at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.

Six different players scored for the Bears, who continued their best start to the season in school history.

Senior All-American midfielder Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) scored twice while senior forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) added a goal and two assists as L-R held a 37-7 advantage in shots taken en route to the win.

The Bears were in control from the outset as junior midfielder Carley Griffin (Fresno, Calif.) opened the scoring just 51 seconds into the match after finishing off a quick pass from Linehan.

Linehan gave L-R a 2-0 advantage in the 11th minute when she connected on a shot from about 25 yards out.

Griffin and Linehan are tied for the team lead in goals this year with eight.

Hauck made it a 3-0 contest with a header into the net off a corner kick from Linehan at the 22:11 mark of the first half and the rout was on.

Sophomore forward Ariel Dominguez (Annapolis, Md.) scored her first goal of the season just 36 seconds before intermission as L-R headed into halftime with a 4-0 lead.

Lenoir-Rhyne kept the pressure on as junior All-American midfielder Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.), Hauck and senior midfielder Mariel Mena (Gainesville, Fla.) all scored in the second half.

Junior goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) picked up the win in goal for the Bears after stopping five shots to register her fourth shutout of the season.? Mars Hill goalkeeper Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.) suffered the setback.

Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Newberry, S.C., to face Newberry in a conference contest Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.? Mars Hill hosts Lincoln Memorial next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
