Hickory, N.C. - The seventh-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team (9-1, 4-0) remained undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Catawba College (1-8, 0-3), 3-1, Wednesday evening at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.

Three different players scored for the Bears, who ran their winning streak to eight matches.

Catawba struck first when Alyssa Retundie (Mooresville, N.C.) scored on a penalty kick 20:41 into the match.

Lenoir-Rhyne tied the contest in the 33rd minute when junior forward Carley Griffin (Fresno, Calif.) scored from 15 yards out after a collision deflected the ball her way.? The goal was Griffin's team-leading seventh of the year.

In the second half, the Bears took the lead for good when senior defender Jessica Schob (Ione, Calif.) headed the ball into the net off a free kick from senior defender Casey McDonnell (Toms River, N.J.) at the 76:21 mark.

L-R senior forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) finished off the scoring when her corner kick bent into the net for the goal, her sixth of the season.

Junior Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) picked up the victory in goal for the Bears, who held a 25-4 advantage in shots taken over the Indians.

Catawba goalkeeper Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, Mass.) suffered the loss despite eight saves in the match.

L-R remains at home to face Lincoln Memorial on Saturday in a league match beginning at 5 p.m.? Catawba, meanwhile, returns home to take on conference-foe Carson-Newman on Saturday beginning at 5 p.m., as well.
