Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Falls Short To Appalachian State

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman guard Denzel Dillingham led the Bears with a team-high 15 points in a 102-64 exhibition setback to Appalachian State Thursday night at the Holmes Center in Boone, N.C.

Boone, N.C. - The Appalachian State University Men's Basketball Team defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University, 102-64, in an exhibition contest Thursday night at the George M. Holmes Convocation Center.

The Mountaineers, an NCAA Division I school, finished with 17 three-pointers and were led by Rodney Milum's (Houston, Texas) game-high 28 points en route to the victory.

Milum hit eight three-pointers while Andre Williamson (Dayton, Ohio) added 17 points and eight rebounds as well for Appalachian State, who shot 57 percent (38-of-67) for the contest.

The Mountaineers' Jamaal Trice (Los Angeles, Calif.) chipped in with 11 points as four Appalachian State players finished in double figures.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by freshman guard Denzel Dillingham (Hickory, N.C.) with 15 points while freshman guard A.J. McKenzie (Gastonia, N.C.) and senior forward Jeff Thomas (Chapel Hill, N.C.) added 12 and 11 points, respectively, despite the loss.? McKenzie also went three-for-five from behind the arc.

Appalachian State raced to a 63-29 halftime advantage thanks to 14 treys in the first half and led by as many as 44 points (74-30) with 17:01 remaining on a three-pointer by Milum.

Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Davidson, N.C., to take on Davidson in another exhibition on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m.? Appalachian State opens the season at home on Friday, November 11, against Lees-McRae beginning at 7 p.m.
