Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team (4-2, 2-1) rolled up a season-high 640 yards of total offense including 569 on the ground in a dominating, 51-6 victory over Tusculum (2-5, 1-2) Saturday afternoon in front of 7,981 fans on Homecoming at Moretz Stadium.

Three players rushed for over 100 yards for the Bears including sophomore halfback Jarrod Spears (Bunnlevel, N.C.) with a game-high 145 yards as L-R won its third straight contest.

Spears averaged 29 yards a carry on five carries and scored a touchdown while senior quarterback Reuben Haynes (Commerce, Ga.) and sophomore fullback Isaiah Whitaker (Salisbury, N.C.) added 127 and 103 yards on the ground, respectively, in the victory.

Haynes also passed for 71 yards and had a pair of touchdowns both through the air and on the ground in the triumph.

Lenoir-Rhyne took control from the outset and scored the game's first 31 points capped off by Haynes' seven-yard touchdown pass to sophomore halfback Greg Baker (Woodbine, Ga.) with 2:29 remaining in the second quarter.

The Bears also took advantage of five lost fumbles by the Pioneers which led to 35 points for Lenoir-Rhyne.

Tusculum preseason All-American quarterback Bo Cordell (Cincinnati, Ohio) passed for 282 yards and a score despite the loss.? Cordell threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Brian Marshall (Chattanooga, Tenn.) late in the second quarter which provided the lone points of the contest for the Pioneers.

On defense, Lenoir-Rhyne sacked Tusculum five times and limited the Pioneers to just 34 yards on the ground.? Senior linebacker Demetrius Green (Cedartown, Ga.), last year's conference defensive player of the year, led the Bears with 10 tackles.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Mars Hill (5-2, 4-0) in a South Atlantic Conference showdown next Saturday at Moretz Stadium beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Tusculum, meanwhile, returns home to face Newberry in a league contest next Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m., in Greeneville, Tenn.
