Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Wins Double Overtime Thriller, 1-0, Over Tusculum

L-R freshman midfielder Garcelle Alequine scored the lone goal of the match in a 1-0 double overtime win over Tusculum Wednesday to clinch at least a share of the conference title for the Bears.

Greeneville, Tenn. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (12-1, 8-0) clinched at least a share of the 2012 South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship with a 1-0 double overtime victory over Tusculum (11-2-2, 6-1-1) Wednesday at Pioneer Field.

Freshman midfielder Garcelle Alequine (Wilmington, Del.) scored the lone goal of the match at the 107:36 mark of the second overtime for the Bears, who also won their ninth consecutive match.

Alequine received a cross from sophomore defender Hanna Kiebel (Parker, Colo.), who was credited with the assist.? The Bears shut out their fifth straight opponent as well.

Lenoir-Rhyne, ranked No. 19 in NCAA Division II, also held a 17-6 advantage in shots taken in winning its 18th straight conference regular season match dating back two years to 2010.

L-R senior goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) earned her fifth shutout of the year after stopping four shots while Tusculum's Marissa Williams (Canton, Mich.) suffered the loss despite allowing just one goal to go along with nine saves.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face UNC Pembroke at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex on Monday for Senior Day beginning at 4:00 p.m. Tusculum, meanwhile, plays at Wingate in a conference match on Saturday, October 27, at 4:30 p.m.
