Harrogate, Tenn. - The Lincoln Memorial Men's Basketball Team (20-4, 13-3) remained tied for first place in the South Atlantic Conference after downing Lenoir-Rhyne (17-7, 10-6), 73-64, Saturday night at Tex Turner Arena.
Lincoln Memorial, ranked No. 19 in NCAA Division II, was led by Vincent Bailey's (Jennings, Fla.) game-high 21 points in the win.
Three players scored in double figures for Lenoir-Rhyne, led by sophomore guard Denzel Dillingham's (Hickory, N.C) 19 points, despite the loss.
A three-pointer by Cam Carden (Clearwater, Fla.) pushed Lincoln Memorial's advantage to 41-28 with 17:18 remaining in the contest before Lenoir-Rhyne rallied to cut the lead to 46-45 midway through the second half.
A lay-up by junior forward Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) cut the margin to a single point but the Bears could not take the lead.? Jones finished with 14 points off the bench.
Lincoln Memorial slowly began to pull away and a free throw by Lorenza Ross (Savannah, Ga.) pushed the Railsplitters' lead to 64-54 with just under five minutes left.
From there, Lincoln Memorial did not let its advantage get below four points the rest of the way.? Ross added 15 points on the night.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior guard R.J. McClure (Canton, N.C.) scored 13 points and connected on 11-of-12 free throw attempts but the Bears shot just 34 percent (17-of-50) from the field.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Mars Hill on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., as part of Senior Night at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium in a conference game.
