Hartsville, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (10-3-2, 6-2-1) shut out Coker (2-9, 1-8), 5-0, Wednesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference match at the Cobras Athletics Field.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior defender Dylan Bedell (Chapel Hill, N.C.) scored twice as the Bears netted all five goals in the first half in winning their third consecutive match.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior forward Kendall Smith (Asheville, N.C.) added a goal and a pair of assists including the match-winner just 18 seconds into the contest. Smith scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season and assisted the final two goals in the match.
Bedell scored back-to-back goals to give the Bears a 3-0 advantage while freshman forward Hannah Van Eerden (Stokesdale, N.C.) and senior midfielder Miranda Simon (Burlington, N.C.) rounded out the scoring for the Bears at the 34:52 and 44:05 marks of the first half, respectively.
In goal, senior Andrea Leano (San Diego, Calif.) earned the shutout victory – the third straight for the Bears – while Shelby Middleton (Lilburn, Ga.) totaled 10 saves for the Cobras despite the loss. Lenoir-Rhyne held a 30-3 edge in shots taken as well. Lenoir-Rhyne is in sole possession of third place in the league standings.
Lenoir-Rhyne, ranked fifth in the first NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll Of The Year, returns home to host Wingate in a South Atlantic Conference match on Senior Day Saturday at 5:00 p.m., at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex. Coker hosts Queens on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
