Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Basketball Comes Out On Top, 72-66 Over Carson-Newman

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (5-5, 4-2) connected on 16 three-pointers on its way to a 72-66 victory over Carson-Newman (6-5, 3-2) in a South Atlantic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

Senior forward JacQues Chambers (Maysville, N.C.) tallied a big double-double – 18 points and a career-high 20 rebounds – while junior guard Jarvis Calhoun (Birmingham, Ala.) added 19 points and hit five treys off the bench to lead the Bears to the win.

Carson-Newman's Charles Clark (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), the league's leading scorer, finished with a game-high 24 points and Sawyer Williams (Owenton, Ky.) also finished with a double-double – 15 points and 12 rebounds – in the setback.

Trailing by a 43-37 score with 18:44 remaining in the game, Lenoir-Rhyne reeled off 18 consecutive points over the next seven minutes to take the lead for good.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior guard Reed Lucas (Greensboro, N.C.) hit four three-pointers and scored all 12 of his points in the first half while the Bears limited the Eagles to just 37 percent shooting (23-of-63) for the game.

The Bears also won their ninth straight conference league regular season home game dating back to last season.

Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road again on Friday, December 30, to face Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Carson-Newman, meanwhile, faces Mars Hill in a league contest in Mars Hill, N.C., on Saturday, December 31, at 4:00 p.m.
