North Greenville Football Shuts Out Lenoir-Rhyne, 45-0

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Football Team (0-2) was shut out by North Greenville (2-0), 45-0, Saturday night at Moretz Stadium.

Six players scored touchdowns for the Crusaders while Rochar Witherspoon (Manning, S.C.) returned the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown as North Greenville handed Lenoir-Rhyne its first shutout since a 45-0 loss to Catawba on November 10, 2007, in Salisbury, N.C.

North Greenville used a balance offensive attack – 179 yards on the ground and 210 yards through the air – and forced Lenoir-Rhyne into four turnovers to remain unbeaten on the season.

The Crusaders' Mason Sanders (Boiling Springs, S.C.) caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Will Hunter (Lexington, S.C.) with 37 seconds remaining in the first half to push North Greenville's lead to 28-0 and the visitors remained in control the rest of the way.

Sanders caught six passes for 76 yards to lead North Greenville while Hunter passed for 165 yards in the victory.  On the ground, Ashton Heard (Abbeville, S.C.) finished with a team-high 67 yards and a touchdown as well.

Lenoir-Rhyne was limited to just 216 yards of total offense while junior running back Calvin Edwards (Salisbury, N.C.) and redshirt freshman running back Nelson Brown (Salisbury, Md.) added 57 and 36 yards, respectively, on the ground.

Defensively, North Greenville's Sam Houston (Easley, S.C.) finished with 10 tackles and Tony Godbolt (Fort Mill, S.C.) had a caused fumble, a fumble recovery and an interception in the win.  Lenoir-Rhyne was led once again by senior defensive back Rodney Singleton (Hawthorne, Fla.) with seven tackles.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Tusculum in its South Atlantic Conference opener next Saturday beginning at 7:00 p.m.  North Greenville returns home to face Newberry on Saturday at 7:00 p.m., as well.
