Lenoir-Rhyne Football Suffers Home Setback To Limestone, 31-13

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team (1-3) was handed a 31-13 loss by Limestone (3-1) Saturday evening in a non-conference regional game at Moretz Stadium.

After falling behind by a 6-0 score, the Saints reeled off 31 consecutive points to take the road victory.  Limestone's quarterback, Ivan Corbin (Warner Robins, Ga.), passed for 214 yards and two scores and the Saints' defense held the Bears out of the end zone until late in the fourth quarter.

In addition, Limestone's Joshua Simmons (Moncks Corner, S.C.) returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to ice the contest for the Saints.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior placekicker Hunter Haire (Longwood, Fla.) kicked a field goal on each of the Bears' first two possessions, but Limestone responded with 17 straight points in the second quarter.

Limestone's Ga'Quan Maize (Florence, S.C.) gave the Saints the lead for good with a seven-yard touchdown run with 3:37 remaining in the first half.  Maize totaled 76 yards on the ground.

Limestone held a 386-361 edge in total yards while Fabian Jefferson (Florence, S.C.) and D'Anta Fleming (Greer, S.C.) both caught touchdown passes for the Saints.

The Bears picked off two passes and freshman linebacker Clayton Horn (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) led all tacklers with 13 including a sack in the setback.  In addition, redshirt freshman running back Nelson Brown (Salisbury, Md.) finished with a game-high 94 yards rushing and sophomore running back Robbie Hooks (Franklinville, N.J.) scored the Bears' lone touchdown late in the contest.

Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road for the first time this season next Saturday, October 1, to face Carson-Newman in a South Atlantic Conference game in Jefferson City, Tenn., beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Limestone, meanwhile, hosts Wingate next Saturday at 1:00 p.m., as well.
