Hickory, N.C. – The Newberry Women's Soccer Team (7-10, 3-7) spoiled Senior Day for Lenoir-Rhyne (11-5-1, 6-3-1), 2-0, Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
•    The Bears lost despite holding a 24-7 edge in shots taken.
•    Newberry received its goals from Daphne Heyaime (Santo Domingo, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC) and Alyssa Ortega (Venice, Calif.) in the victory.  Ortega has a team-leading 11 goals on the year.
•    In goal, Newberry's Jaylean Gant (Poway, Calif.) earned the shutout victory after stopping eight shots while senior 
Alayna Morris (Westminster, Md.) suffered the loss for the Bears.  Morris was credited with one save.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne is guaranteed fifth place in the SAC final regular season standings.
•    The Bears lost to the Wolves for the first time since the 2009 season.  LR had beaten Newberry nine consecutive games.
UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne will next compete in the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Championship with the Quarterfinal Round on Tuesday, October 31.  The Bears will be the fifth seed and take on fourth-seeded Tusculum (10-6, 7-3) in Greeneville, Tenn., beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The Pioneers defeated the Bears by a 2-1 score on Saturday, September 16, in Hickory, N.C., during the regular season.
